Speick (pronounced 'spike') the company, was so named after the medicinal plant, Speick, also known as Alpine Valerian or Valerian Spikenard. Speick was founded in 1928, when anthroposophist Walter Rau established a 'soap works'.
The Speick plant, has a calming effect on the central nervous system, while simultaneously stimulating the autonomic nervous system. Rau's vision was to harness the benefits of this almost forgotten plant and to make it accessible to people again.
